Cabrera off to Germany for study tour
CEBU, Philippines - Councilor Nida Cabrera will represent Cebu City when she visits Germany for a one-week study tour next month to learn how the Germans implemented their solid waste management projects.
Cabrera, who heads the City Council’s Committee on Environment, has been authorized by her fellow city legislators to travel to Germany from October 9 to 16 after she was invited to observe Germany’s solidwaste management programs.
The Center for Research, Education and Demonstration in Waste Management (CREED), a German center for research and education in waste resources management, together with the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, have invited Cabrera to visit their country.
Mayor Michael Rama already gave a go signal for Cabrera to travel and represent the city.
CREED will shoulder Cabrera’s expenses, including hotel accommodations and food while in Germany, while the city only pays for her transportation expenses.
The City Council passed the resolution of Councilor Alvin Dizon to authorize the city to spend P65,000, the cost of Cabrera’s transportation expenses.
Dizon said the travel invitation for Cabrera is timely because the city had already started implementing solid waste management programs such as the segregation of garbage. — (FREEMAN)
