DPWH-7: CITOM personnel should man SRP subway to prevent mishaps

- Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon -

CEBU, Philippines -  The Department of Public Works and Highways in Region VII through the Metro Cebu Development Project suggested to the City Traffic Operations Management that there must be traffic personnel manning the South Road Properties subway to ensure the safety of the passing vehicles and passengers.

MCDP project development officer Rogelio Quibilan said assigning traffic personnel at the entrance and exit of the subway can help prevent vehicles, especially those carrying flammable chemicals, from entering the P1.2 billion worth subway.

“Dapat kanang mga tanker dili gyud na pwede paagi-on nganha sa subway. Adto ra na sila dapat paagi-on sa ibabaw sa subway,” he said.

Quibilan added that assigning traffic personnel in the subway would also prevent over speeding.

Last week, one person died in the six-vehicle collision inside the subway.

The subway is still currently under the warranty period by the contractor, Kajima Corporation, and will end on October this year. It will then be turned over to the DPWH.

Quibilan said that before the project will be accepted by DPWH, this will still be subject to inspection.

He revealed that based on their inspection last week, the subway have some minor defects such as minor cracks on the wall and on the asphalted road.

The construction of the multi-billion infrastructure subway also known as the 3B-2 project started in June 28, 2006 and was inaugurated by former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo last June 30, 2010. — (FREEMAN)
