CEBU, Philippines - A sari-sari store owner was shot dead by her live-in partner in Barangay Langtad, Naga City last Friday night.
The victim was identified as Lorna Cana while the suspect was identified as Nestor Soreso, 54.
PO1 Rongie Nadora of the Naga Police said the couple’s neighbors heard the two arguing just minutes before the shooting and were alarmed when the two started shouting at each other.
At past 8pm, the neighbors heard a burst of gunfire, suspected to have come from Soreso’s .45 caliber pistol.
Seconds after the shot was heard, residents saw Soreso rushing out of Cana’s sari-sari store with gun in hand. He immediately boarded a motorcycle and drove towards San Fernando Town.
The victim’s neighbors rushed her to the Minglanilla District Hospital, but she was declared dead on arrival. Cana was hit on the face.
An empty shell was recovered from the crime scene.
Soreso was arrested in a hot pursuit operation conducted by the Naga Police. He was subsequently subjected to a paraffin test to check if he had recently fired a gun.
Investigators are eyeing personal problems as root causes of the incident.
Soreso is detained at the Naga Police Station while awaiting the formal filing of charges against him. (FREEMAN)
