Police official accused by cop of misconduct

- Ria Mae Y. Booc -

CEBU, Philippines - A policeman complained of misconduct against one of his superior officers before the Provincial Investigation and Detection Management Branch after he found out that no case was filed against an armed person they arrested two months ago.

Police Officer 3 Roger Delan expected that the case for illegal possession of firearms against Virgilio Bueno was already filed but recently he learned that the incident was allegedly amicably settled by Insp. Edgar Awit and was not even recorded on their police blotter.

Delan and Awit are both assigned at the Carmen Police Station.

Delan said that somebody went to the police station and asked about the update of the case of Bueno. This prompted Delan to scan their records and found out that it was not recorded.

Last June 2 Delan’s team was conducting a checkpoint along the national highway in Barangay Dawis Norte when they were able to apprehend Bueno, a resident of barangay Hagnaya, and confiscated from him a homemade pistol with several live rounds and a reserve barrel.

Delan said he was dismayed when he learned that it was settled by Awit without informing them of the developments.

But Awit said that what Delan is doing is just a demolition job against him. He neither affirmed nor denied the allegations.

He added that he will release his statement after he will have a talk with Cebu Provincial Police Office director Patrocinio Comendador today.

Comendador said that he will be directing Chief Insp. Julius Ompad of the PIDMB to investigate the matter.  (FREEMAN)
