Buenafe claims Cebu City is cybersex free
CEBU, Philippines - Cebu City Police Office director Ramon Melvin Buenafe claims that the city is free from cybersex operations.
Buenafe made his claim amidst the discoveries of cybersex operations in the nearby cities and towns in Cebu Province. He said they have not monitored any cyberporn operation in Cebu City.
Buenafe believes that cybersex operators would not dare operate in Cebu City because they can be easily detected unlike in the far-flung areas.
“Now a days Internet services are reaching already even to far-flung areas. Diri nganong mag risgo man sila diri nga dali raman sila dakopon,” he said.
The tranquil atmosphere in the province is allegedly an ideal cover for cybersex operations where people are in dire need for money because of poverty. Buenafe assured that even with their limited capability to go after cybercrimes, they will seriously fight against it.
“Bag-o man gud kini na crime kinahanglan pa ni og mga test cases but we are going to act on this together with the city,” Buenafe said.
The city director earlier asked the Cebu City Council to pass an ordinance requiring computer cubicles in public computer shops to be transparent to discourage pornography.
According to him, this is one step towards preventing cybercrimes to happen within the city following discoveries of such crimes in other localities in the province. He said they are focused to protect young children and women from being exposed to these kinds of activities.
Buenafe however clarified that computer cubicles can still provide privacy, but operators should know what they are doing inside.
In previous months, authorities have raided cybersex dens in Talisay City, Lapu-Lapu City, Cordova, Minglanilla and Consolacion. — (FREEMAN)
