Gov't Watch asks PNoy to deliver
CEBU, Philippines - With President Benigno Aquino delivering his State of the Nation Address tomorrow, the Government Watch urged the President to act now and deliver on his campaign promises.
Government Watch Chairman Raul Concepcion said the Filipinos have yet to see PNoy deliver on his campaign promises of a trustworthy government and improving the quality of life of the masses.
Concepcion said PNoy’s allies both in the political arena and in the business sector are beginning to show impatience and are one in saying that he should address his declining approval rating by more action on the part of the government.
“One year is enough to build the foundation for reforms and deliver his campaign promises,” as said.
Concepcion cited PNoy’s satisfaction rating, which has shown a decline in the past year from +81 percent when he took the oath of office in June 30 last year to a +46% in June this year.
“Now is the time for PNoy to act and make good on his promises. His administration must develop and implement a sound economic program, institutionalize social reforms and efficiently deliver public services, especially to the poor members of our society,” he said.
Concepcion is hopeful that the second year of PNoy’s term will bring about change and that his administration will rise to the challenge.
Involving a wide variety of stakeholders, such as policy research institutes, academia and international agencies, Government Watch or G-Watch has placed on the spotlight a number of cases of government profligacy, non-existent projects and bad management. (FREEMAN)
