CEBU, Philippines - More rains can be expected in the coming week after a low pressure area was detected yesterday afternoon, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Service Administration (Pagasa) said.

Pagasa weather observer Boy Artiaga told The FREEMAN the low pressure area (LPA) is expected to bring thunderstorms in the Visayas and Mindanao. As of yesterday afternoon, the low pressure area was estimated at 239 km east of Borongan, Eastern Samar.

The low pressure embedded the areas along the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) system continues to affect Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.

Artiaga said the affected areas will experience mostly cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms that may trigger flashfloods and landslides.

He said the rest of the country will have partly cloudy skies and isolated rain showers or thunderstorms mostly in the afternoon or evening.

Pagasa predicts that Cebu will have hot weather during midday and rains to pour late afternoons and into evenings which will continue till Monday. Artiaga said people who are residents along riverbanks and on hills should be cautious with threats of flashfloods and landslides.

Students and works should also bring precautionary slippers and shorts for possible flooding in some areas in Cebu City.
