Search for Model OFW Family on

CEBU, Philippines - Recognizing the outstanding achievements of the Overseas Filipino Workers and their families, the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration-7 is staging the search for the Model OFW Family of the Year (MOFYA).

All nominations with supporting documents must be submitted not later than August 30, OWWA Officer II Dineza Espejo said.

Any OFW families residing in Cebu, Bohol, Negros Oriental and Siquijor can be nominated. The OFW should be formerly or presently working abroad, has a minimum of four years of work experience overseas.

One of the four criteria to meet is the Wholesome OFW Family.

Others are the civic or community involvement; success in OFW and/or family members; education or profession, and success in managing family finances.

Religious organizations, NGOs or People’s Organizations, local government units, and community-based socio-civic organizations may submit nominations.

Nominees will be screened and pre-selected by a regional panel of judges.

In October, two regional awardees, each from the land-based and sea-based, will be chosen to qualify for the national finals in December, Espejo said.

The MOFYA award highlights the success of OFW families in managing the impact of overseas employment on family life.

Last year, a family from Kangkaibe, Bantayan, Cebu won the MOFYA sea-based category while a family in Candau-ay, Dumaguete City won in the land-based category.
