Bizman shot dead

- Ryan Christopher J. Sorote -

CEBU, Philippines - A businessman was shot dead Tuesday night by unidentified motorcycle-riding gunman in Barangay Basak-San Nicolas.

Rolando Peliña, 53, of Greyhound Subdivision in Barangay Kinasang-an Pardo, was on his way to meet someone in a pension house along Macupa corner Sabellano Street in Barangay Basak-San Nicolas at 9:50 p.m. when the unidentified gunman shot him several times.

Peliña, who owns a pension house and a lending business, sustained gunshot wounds in the chest and in the left face. Basak Pardo Emergency Response team arrived few minutes after the shooting but the victim was already dead.

Responding homicide investigators found two empty shells for caliber .45 and an empty slug at the crime scene. The police eye personal and business angles in the shooting.

Initial investigation shows that Peliña had just parked his car at the parking area of the pension house where he is supposed to have a meeting. Pension house guard Ernesto Colot said he even greeted the victim.

Few minutes later gunfire rang out prompting Colot to check where it came from. Colot saw the victim bloodied on the ground and the gunman speeding away on his motorcycle.

The gateway motorcycle was later recovered by barangay tanods in the interior portion of Barangay Punta Princesa.

SPO4 Alex Dacua of the Cebu City Police Office Homicide Section said there was a possibility that the gunman had been following the victim. Dacua theorized that it was only when Peliña parked his car that the gunman had the chance to shoot him. — (FREEMAN)
