136 UV students donate blood
CEBU, Philippines - At least 136 students of the University of the Visayas donated blood during the school’s yearly bloodletting campaign yesterday.
Those who gave blood were mostly maritime students.
According to blood center manager Amour Cielo Cantillas, the donors underwent a series of tests and physical checkup before donating their blood.
Cantillas said the donors were required to get enough rest and sleep for at least six hours with no alcohol intake within 24 hours.
Maria Crispy Velasco, UV student development coordinator, said the activity was in line with the university’s “service to humanity” philosophy.
“We are training our students nga naa gyud silay concern. This is one of the programs nga ang mga estudyante maka-feel sila, they have to live in the philosophy of UV,” Velasco said.
Student Supreme Council head Margot Pilas said they visited each room the day before the activity to encourage students to donate blood.
The activity was also made possible by Philippine Red Cross (PRC) and SMART.
SMART has been conducting bloodletting activity for 10 years already and it was the second time that it collaborated with UV for the activity. (FREEMAN)
