City Hall receives computer donation from Yeosu

CEBU, Philippines - Yeosu City delegates headed by Mayor Kim Chung-Seog are in Cebu since July 11 and are expected to go back to Korea today.

The 60 units of slightly used computers were promised by the government of Yeosu last May when some city officials and delegates visited Korea to attend Yeosu’s annual Great Turtle Ship Festival.

The city officials who visited Korea two months ago were City Councilors Roberto Cabarrubias and Lea-Ouano Japson, Secretary to the Mayor Belinda Navascues and 11 other employees who performed a Sinulog number during the festival.

Aside from the 60 units of computers, Yeosu City also pledged to help the city in its scholarship program.

Though the city government and Yeosu City have not reached a concrete agreement yet, a city official said Yeosu is willing to sponsor scholars.

The city government is given the discretion on how to utilize the donated computers. But Cabarrubias earlier said, they planned to distribute it to elementary schools that lack this equipment.

Cabarrubias said the north and the south districts will have to share these computers equally.

Cabarrubias said that most of Korea’s computers are three-year old computers because the country upgrades their computers every three years to ensure the technology is updated.

The computer units have flat panel monitors and have advanced features. – (FREEMAN)
