CEBU, Philippines - The Sheriffs Confederation of the Philippines (SCOPHIL) Cebu Chapter yesterday passed a resolution expressing its full moral support to sheriff Abe Andres of the Regional Trial Court in Davao City who was mauled by Mayor Sarah Duterte while in the performance of his official duty.
SCOPHIL Cebu Chapter president Jessie Belarmino said their resolution would serve as an opener to everybody that what Duterte has done to their colleague in the profession was condemnable.
“The SCHOPHIL found that the act of Duterte of punching Andres while implementing the writ of demolition on July 1, 2011 on the illegal settlers in Barangay Soliman, Agdao District, Davao City was grossly contemptuous,” he said.
Belarmino said their organization wanted to maintain the dignity and independence of the court and likewise for the protection to the enforcers of its decisions, writs and other processes.
SCOPHIL Cebu has also asked Judge Emmanuel Carpio of RTC Branch 16 in Davao City to cite Duterte in contempt of court.
A copy of the resolution will be sent to the chief justice of the Supreme Court, Office of the Court Administrator, SCHOPHIL National President Pat Labayani, Presiding Judge of RTC Branch 16, Executive Judge of RTC Davao City, President of SCHOPHIL-Davao City Chapter and Andres. - (THE FREEMAN)
