CH spends P48M in 6 months for fuel

- Rene U. Borromeo -

CEBU, Philippines -  Cebu City Hall had consumed P48 million-worth of fuel for the 1,222 different units of vehicles of the city and barangays during the first six months of this year, said General Service Office (GSO) chief Rolly Ardoza.

Ardoza said the volume of consumed fuel, which reached 160,233 liters of diesel and 35,301 liters of unleaded gasoline from January to June this year, was the same compared to the consumption from July 1 to December 31 last year.

“Mao-mao ra man gihapon ang gidaghanon sa fuel nga atong nagamit sa miaging unom ka buwan pero ang kantidad lang miusbaw pag-ayo karong tuiga tungod sa pagsaka sa presyo sa petroleum products,” Ardoza explained.

He failed to give the amount of fuel consumption during the second half of last year.

According to Ardoza, aside from the 747 city-owned vehicles, the city is also the one that shouldered the fuel consumption of the 475 assorted vehicles of the barangays.

A total of 9,017 liters of unleaded gasoline and 59,997 liters of diesel were consumed by the barangay vehicles from January to June, while the city-owned vehicles also used 26,284 liters of unleaded gasoline and 100,236 liters of diesel.

There was a plan to reduce the volumes of fuel given to the barangays’ garbage trucks but Ardoza explained it did not push through because they are afraid that the collection of garbage would be affected.

Some department heads are provided 300 liters of fuel every month while the city councilors are given 500 liters.

The mayor and the vice mayor can use up to 750 liters of fuel a month.

Ardoza said Guadalupe has the highest volume of fuel consumption among the 80 barangays because it has the most number of vehicles, followed by barangays Mambaling and Tisa. Guadalupe is the biggest barangay in the city.

Of all the City Hall departments, the Department of Public Services (DPS) has the highest volume of fuel consumption because of its garbage trucks, followed by the Department of Engineering and Public Works (DEPW). — (FREEMAN)
