CEBU, Philippines - Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia wrapped up her two-day visit in Bantayan Island by gracing the 11th Palawod Festival of Bantayan town yesterday afternoon.
The Palawod Festival has been a consistent champion in the Pasigarbo sa Sugbo Festival of Festivals since 2008. Garcia has been in the island for two days to distribute around P10 million worth of projects in the towns of Bantayan, Madridejos and Santa Fe.
She was joined by Fourth District Rep. Benhur Salimbangon and Provincial Board Members Joven Mondigo, Jr. and Sun Shimura.
Last Tuesday Garcia led the inauguration of three two-classroom school buildings in Mancilang Primary School, San Agustin National High School and in Tabagak Elementary School, all in Madridejos.
Garcia also turned over P1 million worth of check to Madridejos Mayor Salvador dela Fuente for the repair of barangay roads.
A computer set for the Early Childhood Care and Development and Government Service Insurance Systems group accident insurance for Bantay Dagat of Madridejos and Sta. Fe.
A road concreting project with 3.4 kilometers long was inaugurated in Barangay Baod in Bantayan town.
Barangay captain and ex-officio Provincial Board Member Jose Ribomapil Holganza, Jr. said the project is a joint effort of the Province which provided 8,000 bags of cement, P600,000 from the barangay funds and around P300,000 from the municipal government.
Salimbangon is supposed to have P3.5 million from his Priority Development Assistance Fund for the road concreting project but it was converted to the construction of multi-purpose covered court building in Baod after the road was already completed.
The inauguration of school buildings was completed yesterday with two-classroom in Sta. Fe Central School and four-classroom Sta. Fe National High School.
School supplies for students and lesson plans for teachers were also distributed through the school heads.
Garcia promised to Sta. Fe Mayor Jennifer Ilustrisimo for the same number of additional classrooms for the said school.
Upon hearing the promised of Garcia, Salimbangon also promised to give P2 million for Sta. Fe’s public market with P1.5 from his PDAF and the P.5 million from Senator Francis Escudero. — (FREEMAN)
