Police seize 14 guns in Danao but suspect eludes arrest
CEBU, Philippines - At least 14 assorted firearms were recovered from an alleged gun runner in Barangay Ylaya, Danao City Wednesday night.
Operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG)-7 assisted by Danao City Police Station, however, failed to arrest the subject of the supposed entrapment operation, a certain Marcing Batulan.
Senior Insp. Ricky Neron, who led the operation, said they transacted with the suspect and pretended to buy the guns, mostly high-powered ones.
When they arrived at the area at 7 p.m., Neron said they saw three or more people scampered in different directions after sensing that they were policemen.
“So inuna na lang namin sa pagkuha ang mga armas na naiwan nila kaysa habulin pa sila,” Neron said.
They recovered from a shanty a KG9 machine pistol, an Ingram machine pistol, two caliber .45 pistols, four caliber .357 revolvers, three caliber .38 snub nose revolvers, and three caliber .22 magnum “black widow.”
Neron said all firearms were not licensed and had no serial numbers.
Police also recovered two KG9 magazines, also two magazines for Ingram machine pistol, and another two magazines for a caliber .45 pistol.
Neron said the firearms, owned by the suspect, all amounted to over P100,000. He said they placed the suspect under surveillance for more or less 20 days before carrying out the operation.
The police official further said they will file a case for illegal possession of firearms against the suspect before the City Prosecutor’s Office of Danao City today. — (FREEMAN)
