Zip-line ordinance gets Balamban's Support

-

CEBU, Philippines - The proposed ordinance to regulate the zip-line business and other similar adventures operating in Cebu province got the support of the Balamban town, which hosts several zip-lines.

Balamban Mayor Ace Stefan Binghay said he is for the safety of the patrons not just for their thrill and their excitement.

The zip-lines in Barangay Gaas, Balamban are among the popular destinations for those who want to discover nature and stay away from the crowded city and beach resorts.

Zip-lines have become among the growing phenomenal adventures and entertainment eco-tourism come-ons in the Province of Cebu that cater mostly to visiting or vacationing foreign and domestic tourists alike.

Other areas identified with existing zip-line businesses are in Cebu City along the Transcentral Highway adjacent to Balamban, Liloan and in Medellin in the north.

Fear for untoward incident in the future caused by unregulated zip-line businesses prompted Vice Governor Agnes Magpale to sponsor the ordinance, which has been approved already on second reading at the PB.

Magpale saw the need to institute preventive measures to safeguard users from dangers and hazards inherently attached amid the exceptional mixed feelings of excitement, thrill and fun through zip-line riding.

Regulations include issuance of necessary licenses and permit from the local government unit and other government agencies concerned.

Persons over 60 years old and below 12 years old and those who are physically unfit are also prohibited against zip-line use.

The Department of Tourism has already endorsed the measure although the office is yet to come up with regulation standards for accreditation of the said tourism facility.   - (THE FREEMAN)
