CEBU, Philippines - To give his sincere gratitude for their stand against the controversial Reproductive Health Bill, Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma invited 26 government officials to a luncheon meeting tomorrow.
Cebu Archdiocesan Media Liaison officer, Msgr. Achilles Dakay, said the event will be held at the Archbishop’s Palace along D. Jakosalem St.
“As the new spiritual leader of Cebu, this is an opportunity for me to get to know you,” Dakay quoted Palma’s invitation as saying.
Among those who have confirmed their attendance to the luncheon meeting are Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia and Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama together with the other invited mayors.
In yesterday’s press conference, Dakay said aside from Garcia and Rama, invitations were also sent to seven mayors, nine congressmen, the vice governor, two vice mayors, two councilors and five senators from Manila.
Senator Tito Sotto said he cannot personally attend but he will be sending his chief of staff, while Sen. Juan Ponce Enrile could not make it.
All of the invited congressmen also confirmed their attendance.
With the support of several Cebuano government officials and legislators, Palma earlier expressed optimism that the RH Bill, which is described by the church as anti-life, will not be passed into law.
The prelate said the church will not stop campaigning against the bill and will continue to teach the people about pro-life principles. — (FREEMAN)
