Wife takes home murdered Kuratong Baleleng member

- Ria Mae Y. Booc -

CEBU, Philippines - The remains of alleged Kuratong Baleleng member Fernando Canillo, who was shot dead together with his live-in partner and three-year-old son in Lapu-Lapu City, was already claimed from the funeral homes and was brought by his wife to Ozamis City.

The Lapu-Lapu City police has released Canillo’s body to Alona Canillo Saturday night after the latter was able to show proof that she is the legal wife and after she has settled their financial obligation to the St. Francis Funeral Homes for their services.

Alona paid over P100,000 for the services of the funeral homes in taking care of the three massacre victims. But despite payment of the funeral homes, the remains of Canillo’s live-in partner Emma Beronguis and their son Fernando, II were not released by the police.

According to the police, they will only release the bodies of the two other victims to a family member who can present proof of their relation to them.

Beronguis’s mother, Charita, tried to claim her body and that of her son but failed. Charita has to go back to Quezon City to get any document that would prove her relation to Beroguis.

Canillo, Beronguis and their son were shot dead last Thursday inside their house in Barangay Babag 2, Lapu-Lapu City by four armed men believed to be Canillo’s former colleagues in the robbery gang. Also injured during the massacre was Ricric Laraño, a relative of Beronguis.

The police have already filed charges for multiple murder and frustrated murder before the prosecutor’s office against a certain Ricky Cadavero and three others whose identities are still being investigated. — (FREEMAN)
