CEBU, Philippines - An evening fire razed two houses in barangay Poblacion, Sibonga last Tuesday.
The fire, which was raised to second alarm, destroyed the houses owned by Rosalia Caylan and her sister Maria Mosqueda. The two houses are made of light materials.
The Sibonga Fire Station, which was about 200 meters away, received the alarm around 11:55 p.m.
Fire Inspector Ramonito Alegrado told The FREEMAN that at least P100,000 worth of property were lost to the fire. However, no casualties were reported.
Alegrado said the fire started outside the house of Rosalia, suspecting that embers of a cigarette butt may have caused the blaze.
Prior to the incident, a witness alleged that he saw Caylan’s son, Toyben, being drunk and smoking outside their house.
Rosalia’s house has no electricity and Alegrado said a lamp did not cause the fire.
“Way laing source of heat except sa sigarilyo kay manigarilyo man ning bataa,” he said. — (FREEMAN)
