CEBU, Philippines - Police confiscated close to 50 assorted pieces of lumber in the mountain barangay of Mabini, Cebu City last Tuesday night.
The police, however, did not arrest the driver of the truck where the items were loaded or anyone who might be held liable for the illegal lumber.
PO2 Japeth Malima, desk officer of the Cebu City Public Safety Battalion Office, said that based on the report, personnel from their office led by SPO3 Bernard Villaban confiscated the items.
Villaban and his men received a tip about the cargo truck that’s why they intercepted this at around 10 p.m. The driver, whose name was not recorded in the report, failed to present any documents to prove that the items were legal.
Malima said the items were mostly of coconut and teak, which are usually used in making boxes for fruits and vegetables.
The items are now at the custody of the police and will be turned over to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources-7. — (FREEMAN)
