House honors Maambong

-

CEBU, Philippines - The House of Representatives the other day approved a resolution expressing “profound condolence” on the death of Regalado Maambong, a former member of the Batasang Pambansa.

“The Hon. Regalado Maambong was an outstanding jurist, constitutionalist, criminologist and election expert who served his country and people by upholding honesty and dedication in public service,” read the resolution authored by Cebu first district Rep Eduardo Gullas.

Maambong, 72, died of cancer on May 27.

In the resolution, the House honored Maambong as a “public servant,” whose service started in the early ‘60s.

Maambong was appointed justice of the Court of Appeals in 2002. But prior to that, he was a commissioner of the Commission on Elections from 1991-1998, a presiding regional trial court judge in 1991. In that year, he was appointed Bar examiner in criminal law.

The late jurist’s career in the government actually started in 1962 at the National Bureau of Investigation Academy where he was an instructor until 1963.

From 1980 to 1984, he served Cebu as a Provincial Board Member. Shortly after that, he was elected assemblyman to the First Regular Batasang Pambansa.

“Maambong was public servant whose commitment to public service deserves adulation and emulation from those who aspire to serve the people,” said Gullas.

His passing away is a “tremendous loss” not only to his family and friends, but also to the Filipino people, he added. — (FREEMAN)
