Farmer who killed uncle surrenders
CEBU, Philippines - The farmer, who hacked dead his own uncle due to a land dispute last Sunday evening in Sitio Upper Kalangyawon, Barangay Napo, Carcar City, voluntarily surrendered to the Carcar Police Station yesterday morning.
Police said Renilo Regidor, 31, was accompanied by Napo barangay councilman Enrique Manguroban when he surrendered to the police.
Regidor allegedly hacked Rodrigo Tanuco, 48, while they were walking home from drinking at a store.
Their companion Rosalio Mangyao said while they had been drinking the two argued for a few minutes over a parcel of land.
Carcar police inves-tigator SPO1 Reynaldo Fuentes said while Tanuco and Regidor were heading home, Regidor suddenly pulled out a scythe tucked in his pants and repeatedly hacked Tanuco, eventually killing him.
“Dugay na gyud ni silang duna’y dumot, unya nakainom pud,” Fuentes said.
But Regidor alleged he only did what he had to after Tanuco threatened to kill him while they were on their way home.
“Gibungatan ko nga patyon niya giunhan nako siya,” Regidor said.
Tanuco’s remains now lie at the Tupaz Funeral Homes in Barangay Poblacion.
A murder case is set to be filed today at the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office against Regidor.
Meanwhile, a fisher-man was found dead a few minutes after he was punched by his brother-in-law last Monday night in Sitio Cabacungan, Barangay Japitan, Barili town.
Luciano Gimarangan, 50, was lying lifeless inside his house when found by his relative Teresita Gimarangan.
Police said Luciano and his father Marcial Gimarangan, 74, earlier had an argument that quickly led to a fistfight.
Isabelo Patatag, 46, his brother-in-law arrived and tried to pacify the two but when Luciano allegedly tried to choke Marcial Isabelo punched him in the abdomen.
Luciano calmed down and went home grimacing because of the pain.
Minutes later, Teresita passed by and saw Luciano sprawled on the floor prompting her to call for help but the Rural Health Unit officer pronounced him dead.
Police subjected Luciano’s cadaver to an autopsy to determine if he was killed due to his hit or if he later suffered a heart attack.
Relatives of Luciano claimed he suffered from a mental illness but police said the claims are not supported by medical documents. – (FREEMAN)
