Council committees may undergo revamp

- Garry B. Lao -

CEBU, Philippines - All Cebu City Council committees will undergo minor changes in the reorganization of their chairmanships.

This was announced by Vice Mayor Joy Augustus Young, the council presiding officer, saying he talked with some members of the council about his proposed reorganization of the City Council considering some councilors are “graduating” by 2013.

“That is the plan pero magsabot pa mi nianang tanan,” Young said.

City Councilors Joey Daluz III holds the committee on budget and finance while Edgardo Labella holds the committee on laws, ordinances, public accountability and good governance.

Both of them are on their third and last term.

Talks have it that City Councilor Margarita Osmeña will replace Daluz while Sisinio Andales will take over Labella’s committee.

Sources said that Daluz called up Osmeña asking her if she could replace him, but Osmeña said she is already comfortable heading the committee on tourism, cultural and historical affairs. However, she is willing to accept it if it will be agreed by the majority of the council.

Daluz, who also sit as the vice-chairman of the committee on laws, said that it is in their house rules that every July 1 there is a review of committee chairmanships.

“All committees are theoretically open either for change or confirmation,” Daluz said.

If Young has his way, he would like to have Noel Wenceslao and Andales replace Daluz and Labella in their respective committees. –
