CEBU, Philippines - What started as an ordinary family trouble ended up in a legal battle with the Cebu Provincial Prosecutor’s Office finding probable cause to indict a mother and her 15-year-old daughter for slight physical injuries.
Wenelyn Labalan and her daughter were charged in court for slight physical injuries in relation to Republic Act 7610 otherwise known as child abuse and another slight physical injury.
Wenelyn is required to post P80,000 bail for slight physical injuries in relation to child abuse while her minor daughter is required P40,000 bail for their temporary liberty.
The case stemmed from the complaints filed by Georgia Lumayag and her 17-year-old daughter Grianne Vista in 2009.
The accused allegedly attacked the Lumayags in the evening of October 23, 2009 in Barangay Tuyan Naga City resulting to the injuries of the victims.
Grianne Vesta suffered injuries in her face while her mother also suffered injuries in her left hand that required medical treatment.
The alleged assault happened after they failed to settle their misunderstanding through a dialogue brokered by their neighbor. According to the victims, when they were about to leave the place the accused started attacking them.
Assistant provincial prosecutor Jay Paradiang found probable cause to elevate the case in court. (FREEMAN)
