Two men hacked to death

CEBU, Philippines - Two men were killed in separate hacking incidents in the towns of Consolacion and Cordova, Cebu over the weekend.

Hacked in the neck by his own friend, 29-year-old Rodulfo Casas of barangay Guinsay, Danao City didn’t make it to the hospital last Saturday evening.

His head was almost cut off after Arman Pescador, 37, of barangay Polog, Consolacion hacked him using a long knife locally known as “pinuti.”

Rodulfo was drinking with his brother Bernandito Casas, Pescador and their two neighbors at a videoke house in sitio Magdaguok, barangay Cabangahan, Consolacion.

In the middle of their drinking session, Rodulfo and Bernandito had an argument, prompting Pescador to intervene.

Police Officer 2 Jhonaskie Romero said Rodulfo believed that Pescador intervened to defend Bernandito, so Rodulfo punched Pescador. After a brief scuffle Pescador took the “pinuti” tucked in his waist and repeatedly hacked Rodulfo, hitting his neck.

Pescador fled after the incident but Polog barangay officials later arrested him in his house.

He is now detained at the Consolacion police stockade after barangay councilor Jonas Pescador, the suspect’s uncle, convinced him to surrender to give justice to Rodulfo’s death.

Rodulfo’s body now lies at the St. Margaret Funeral Parlor.

A murder case is set to be filed today at the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office.

Meanwhile, in Cordova, a stay-in worker of a stone craft factory in sitio Kasambagan, barangay Dapitan was hacked by his companion inside the shanty where they were temporarily staying last Sunday dawn.

A certain Arthur, a native of Talisay City, sustained several wounds in his body after he was hacked by Alejandro “Alex” Urot.

Manuel Nuñez, owner of the stone craft business, claimed that at about 7:30 a.m. he found Arthur lying on the ground and in a pool of blood.

Police Officer 1 Ryan Casiban said Arthur and Urot were drinking liquor beside a benefit dance and then had an altercation.

About 2:00 a.m., the two went home to their shanty when Urot suddenly attacked and hacked Arthur.

Dr. Christopher Calimbas, municipal health officer, declared Arthur dead due to multiple stab wounds in his back.

Arthur’s cadaver was taken to the St. Francis Funeral Homes while Urot is now being hunted by the police. — (FREEMAN)
