Province to do beautification of road from Capitol to Fuente

CEBU, Philippines - In support to the city’s beautification project, the Province of Cebu will be the one to do the entire beautification work of the one-kilometer stretch of Osmeña Boulevard from the Provincial Capitol Building to Fuente Osmeña junction.

Governor Gwendolyn Garcia yesterday assured the committee on Beautification Project, headed by philanthropist Mariquita Salimbangon-Yeung, of the province’s support when the committee members requested her.

Asked if how much budget the province is appropriating, Garcia said the funds shall be raised “in a most creative and ingenious manner.”

Garcia said there is already a plan on how to proceed in way not to burden the provincial government and not to utilize its resources that are still needed in other infrastructure and basic services.

The province will do the entire work in conformity with the specifications as planned by the committee and target it to finish in August in time for the founding anniversary of the Province of Cebu.

There will be one-look in architectural ambiance in the sidewalks and center islands of the entire stretch of Osmeña Boulevard from Capitol to Plaza Independencia.

Garcia said Architect Tess Javier already has showed her the plan.

Yesterday, the Province of Cebu and the Department of Public Works and Highways signed an agreement for the beautification of highways in the province.

Garcia and DPWH-7 director Pedro Herrera, Jr. signed the memorandum of agreement on the use of some vehicles and equipment owned by the Province of Cebu by the DPWH in the implementation of the “Search for the e-Gwen Highway” project.

The “Expanded Green and Wholesome Environment that Nurtures (eGwen) Our Cebu Program” of the Province of Cebu is in collaboration with DPWH, Department of Tourism and the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation, Inc.

For the effective implementation of the program, DPWH needs some vehicles and equipment and has requested the Province of Cebu to be the one to provide them.

The Province of Cebu will assign 12 multicabs, 120 grass cutters and 90 wheel barrows to DPWH through memorandum receipts.

The DPWH is responsible in the maintenance of the said equipment and to provide drivers and secure them. — (FREEMAN)
