CEBU, Philippines - Three people died after the motorcycle they were riding rammed into a parked cargo truck on the roadside of the national highway in Barangay Tungkop Minglanilla yesterday dawn.
The victims, Bernard Bacus, 23, of Lower Tunghaan Minglanilla, and his back riders Cristylyn Aledon, 25, and Aimme Savellita, of legal age, came from a drinking session and were allegedly on their way to buy for more liquor when the accident happened at 2:00 a.m. Wednesday.
The victims, who were believed to be drunk, were reportedly racing with another Cebu City-bound motorcycle when their motorcycle bumped into the rear portion of the cargo truck driven by Jeffy Abadiez, 26, also of Barangay Tungkop.
Abadiez said he parked his cargo truck for a while on the roadside because he went home to get an extra shirt.
Bacus and Aledon died on the spot while Savellita was brought by the responding policemen to the South General Hospital in Naga City where she was declared dead on arrival.
The driver of the cargo truck was arrested and is now detained at the Minglanilla Police Station. He will be charged with reckless imprudence resulting to multiple homicide.
Senior Police Officer 1 Renato Masangcay said the truck driver failed to put an early warning device to warn approaching motorists. — (FREEMAN)
