CEBU, Philippines - A former working student of the University of San Jose-Recoletos placed second in the recent Certified Public Accountant licensure examination.

Aside from Antonio Dandan Sanchez Jr. who got a 92 percent rating, three other graduates from the University of San Carlos also landed in the top 10 of the same licensure examination.

The Professional Regulation Commission yesterday announced that 2,130 out of 5,259 examinees passed the CPA licensure examination conducted by the Board of Accountancy in Cebu City and six other cities in the country last week.

Interviewed over dyLA yesterday afternoon, Sanchez said despite his financial difficulties, he still did his best and graduated cum laude in his course last March.

Sanchez said he wants to help his parents so that his mother will no longer work as a helper in Manila to support the meager income of his father who used to be a baker.

Sanchez encouraged poor students not to make the financial problem a hindrance to finish their education but instead use it as a challenge to achieve their dreams.

Hegiño Chua Jr. and Viktor Xenon Lequin, both of the University of San Carlos ranked fourth with their 91.57 ratings, while UCS’s Gilson Pino also landed sixth place with his 90.86 rating.

The first placer of the CPA licensure examination is Marwin Baldevia of Saint Paul's Business School-Palo in Palo, Leyte, who got a 92.14 rating, while third was Seodel Hearty Pilapil of San Beda College and Darwin Saribay of Tomas del Rosario Academy.

In fifth place is Jay Ann Estavillo of Technological Institute of the Philippines-Manila, followed by Pino, then Don Lorenzo Perea Soriano of De La Sale University-Manila in seventh place.

Maria Patricia Pernia Faner of De La Salle University-Manila, and Arnold Isip of Holy Angel University shared eighth place.

Leo Angelo Larcia of De La Salle University-Manila, Martha Anne Perez of Miriam College, and Ervina Suzette Tan of De La Salle University-Manila landed ninth place while Marian Cristy Bartolome of Far Eastern University-Manila, Dhexter Caduyac of Notre Dame of Kidapawan College, Dennis Magallanes of Dr. Filemon C. Aguilar Memorial College shared the tenth place.

The oath taking ceremony of the successful CPA examinees as well as the previous ones who have not taken their oath will be held before the Board on July 8, 2011 at the Plenary Hall of the Philippine International Convention Center in Roxas Blvd., Pasay City.

The board is composed of lawyer Eugene Mateo, chairman; Ma. Elenita Cabrera, vice chairwoman; and members Luis Caete, Dr. Rufo Mendoza and Jose Tayag Jr. –/BRP (FREEMAN)
