Man kills self after wife left him
CEBU, Philippines - A man allegedly ended his life after his wife left him for being a gambler Saturday afternoon in Barangay Lamac, Consolacion.
Josmar Velasquez, 35, a native of Barangay Casuntingan Mandaue City, hung himself to death inside their rented house in Barangay Lamac.
Police found Velasquez hanging inside their room with a nylon rope tied around his neck with its other end attached the ceiling.
A certain “Korodong,” owner of the house, was called by their neighbors, informing him that Velasquez committed suicide. He then called for police assistance.
According to Ritchell, Velasquez’s wife, she abandoned the victim about three weeks ago because she could no longer tolerate his being a gambler.
Velasquez was allegedly so engrossed with cockfighting and mahjong that he was no longer able to perform his responsibility to their family.
Days before the incident, Velasquez allegedly tried to drown himself while he and his friends went swimming in a beach nearby. However, he was rescued by one of his friends.
Police said, Velasquez’s children were not around, when he committed suicide because Ritchell brought them to Barili town where she now lives. — (FREEMAN)
