Sanchez sis visits Magpale, thanks brother's employees

CEBU, Philippines - Before going back to the United States, Edna Sanchez, the eldest among the siblings of the late vice governor Gregorio Sanchez, Jr., visited the Office of Vice Governor yesterday to thank the staff of her brother.

The staff of the late Sanchez are still intact even if there is already a new vice governor because their appointments will expire on June 30 yet.

In meeting with Vice Governor Agnes Magpale, Edna said she did not ask anything from the vice governor except that she thanked those who served in the wake up to the burial of her brother.

Magpale confirmed Edna did not ask anything instead described her as “very nice.”

Magpale said Edna agreed when she informed her that there will be some employees of Sanchez whose appointment may not be renewed next month.

While reviewing the performance of all the existing staff of the office, Magpale admitted having a hard time making decision to fire out employees because she was not elected vice governor.

A Civil Service Commission Memorandum Circular received by Magpale yesterday stating the revised guidelines on the determination of positions in the local government units as primarily confidential.

The memorandum allows the offices of governor, vice governor, city and municipal mayor, vice mayor or sangguniang panlalawigan, panlungsod and bayan to have 15 positions as confidential.

Magpale said that she is worried about the staff of the Provincial Board members since there are present positions that are no longer in the list of the CSC Memorandum.

Local legislative staff positions are no longer in the new set up.

Although, the CSC memorandum allows 15 positions while at present, each office of the PB members only has 11 staff.

Magpale said she will meet all PB members on Monday and they will invite Capitol personnel officer Noli Vincent Valencia to find ways how affected employees can be accommodated.

One option, Magpale said, is to transfer affected employees to new items with equivalent salary grade or higher.

Magpale assured affected employees that they will be accommodated as long as transfer of items can be allowed. (FREEMAN)
