MCWD apologizes for inconvenience no water in 3 cities, 3 towns yesterday
CEBU, Philippines - Although it was a scheduled service interruption that was announced as early as last week, Charmaine Rodriguez, spokesperson of the Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD), said they still apologize for the inconvenience.
In an advisory published in local dailies last week, MCWD announced a nine-hour service interruption from 9:00 in the evening of May 14 to 6:00 in the morning of May 15.
The work was for the interconnection of the 1,000mm-diameter to a 300mm-diameter pipe at the Canduman Road, Mandaue City.
Rodriguez said the work was intended to improve the water supply in Mandaue City and Lapu-Lapu City.
In preparation for the interconnection project, 28 water pumps in northern Cebu were closed while work was ongoing.
These pumps, she said, were supplying water to two reservoirs in the town of Consolacion.
She added that although the work was completed at 6:00 in the morning yesterday, the build up of water pressure and the high demand for water supply resulted in the delay of the resumption of service in elevated areas in Mandaue City and the farthest barangays in the affected service areas like Mabolo in Cebu City and Punta Engaño in Lapu-Lapu City.
Rodriguez further said that water supply in the affected service areas was expected to normalize at 6:00 last night. – (FREEMAN)
