Guv gives in to plea of bus operators

CEBU, Philippines - Operations at the Capitol-run South Bus Terminal will remain as is, for now.

This after Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia indefinitely deferred the implemen-tation of the new set-up of operations at the terminal as answer to the request of mini-bus operators.

The management of the South Bus Terminal has proposed to change its operations, intending to close the boarding gates at certain hours of the day to cut its operating costs.

However, Julito Flores, president of the Cebu Mini Bus Operators Association, complained they were not formally informed of any of the proposed changes.

Most importantly, bus operators said they are against the proposed new system at the terminal because it could disrupt the normal flow of the passengers as the terminal generally operates 24 hours a day.

In her regular press conference yesterday, Garcia said she understands the operators’ concerns, adding “If it ain’t broke, we shall not fix it.”

She said the schedule of the opening of the gates as well as the opening of the facility will remain as before.

Capitol consultant Jose Maria Gastardo said the operations of the Cebu South Bus Terminal will officially return to its original set-up on May 15. – (FREEMAN)
