OBO asks contractors to be "sensitive"

CEBU, Philippines - The Office of the Building Officials (OBO) yesterday reminded contractors to be more responsible and sensitive within the area that they are operating in.

This is after OBO head Josefina Ylanan received several complaints from various residents against noise pollution in their barangay brought by the 24-hour work being done by construction companies.

“Dili man gyud angayan mo-trabaho og 24-hours. Naay uban gusto man nila maapas sa deadline mao nga mag-24 hours sila og trabaho nga ang hinungdan daghang mang-reklamong silingan,” Ylanan said.

One of the complaints that they received was from Emilio Luga Jr., a resident of Casals Village in Barangay Mabolo, against Big Buzz Construction General Services for violating the Cebu City Anti-Noise Ordinance.

Ylanan said contractors should coordinate with the barangay officials to avoid trouble with residents.

“Makig-coordinate gyud sila sa barangay aron ang taga-barangay maoy mopahibalo ngadto sa mga tawo kabahin sa ilang gi-trabaho,” Ylanan said.

Mabolo Barangay Administrator Raul Inocian, in a separate interview with The FREEMAN, said that Engr. Benito Avancenia, the owner of the construction company – the Big Buzz Construction General Services, already apologized to the residents of Casals Village.

The company had promised that their construction will start at 7 in the morning and would end at 6:00 in the evening.

But the residents of the subdivision complained at the barangay hall of Mabolo because the construction project is affecting the serenity of their village at nights.

Luga said their neighborhood had been disturbed by the noise from the 24-hour operation of Big Buzz Construction.

According to Inocian, they are making sure that Big Buzz will no longer violate the agreement, otherwise, they will recommend to the Cebu City Hall for appropriate action. (FREEMAN)
