BFP still lacks personnel, equipment

CEBU, Philippines - Lack of personnel and firefighting apparatus and equipment still haunt the fire stations in the region.

Bureau of Fire Protection-7 director, Senior Supt. Ma. Luisa Hadjula said these were the most common problems raised when she and the other officials of the regional fire department visited the fire stations regionwide.

Hadjula said the purpose of their visit was to know the current problems and concerns of the BFP personnel and fire marshals.

Most of the fire stations allegedly raised concern on their lack of personnel and insufficient fire fighting apparatus.

An ideal fire station has one fire truck and is manned by seven personnel per shift but most fire stations in Central Visayas do not meet the requirement.

The first female regional fire chief said she would do her best to address the problems of the fire stations.

Hadjula also made courtesy calls to various municipal and city mayors in Central Visayas to develop harmonious relationship with the local government units.

Hadjula said that with a solid partnership between the BFP and the LGU, the latter is expected to pour its support to their respective fire stations.(FREEMAN NEWS)
