CH employees to receive midyear bonus next month

- Jessica Ann R. Pareja -

CEBU, Philippines - Cebu City Hall employees will receive next month their midyear bonus equivalent to half of their monthly salary.

But the monetization of leave credits will be moved to June because the city government has to give way to other priorities such as projects for its constituents, more importantly, for the taxpayers.

“We have to prioritize also the delivery of services to the tax payers. Many of them have been waiting for a long time when the city will be able to fix their roads or get the other services that we owe them. I think our employees can wait,” Oliva said.

Many employees complained about the delay and why the monetization will be done per cluster of departments at a time.

The first cluster of departments may apply for monetization of leave credits in June, another cluster in July until all will be able to apply.

The city government has appropriated P8 million for the monetization fund.

Oliva said they decided to move it to June because the city government has other priorities right now.

Besides, she said, the employees had already received their Charter Day bonus amounting to P10,000 last February and their productivity bonus last March.

“Instead of complaining, we have to think about the tax payers who need our services. Wala pa man sad nato na-collect ang tanang P6 billion target for the year because second quarter has just started,” she said.

She said many of the projects of the current administration have been funded already, which means the city is faster in delivering basic services to the people.

As of April 23, the city government has already earned P2.1 billion. The target for the annual budget is P4.4 billion but they are aiming for up to P6 billion for this year.

Oliva said that she would suggest to the mayor to subject all employees to a financial management seminar to teach them how to manage their money wisely.

She said that she heard reports that most employees are suffering from debts which sometime affect their performance. — (FREEMAN)
