Market operatives seize goods
CEBU, Philippines - Operatives of the Cebu City Market Operations Division yesterday seized undetermined worth of farm products displayed on the roads within the vicinity of the Carbon Market.
Market administrator Raquel Arce said the confiscation was done because ambulant vendors who were allowed by the city to display their goods on the roads at night have already blocked the vehicle traffic.
Arce said that the ambulant vendors have been repeatedly reminded that they are only allowed to sell on the roads from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.
“Kadlawon nga ang akong mga sakop nagsigi na og abiso sa mga vendors gamit ang megaphone nga kinahanglang inig-alas sayes sa buntag limpyo na ang karsada dili kay inig-alas sayes mao pay pagpanghipos kay amo g’yud na nga sakmiton ang ilang baligya,” Arce explained.
A truck load of assorted vegetables confiscated by the market operatives were brought to the City Hall building yesterday. Some of the vendors however claimed their goods and paid P500 fine.
The products that will not be claimed after 24-hours will be forfeited in favor of the government. Arce said they will donate these products to the different charitable institutions.
“Nakahatud na mi og daghang utanon ug prutas sa Parian Drop-in Center, Community Scouts, Asilo dela Medalla Milagrosa ug sa mga Misyonaryo diha sa Talamban,” Arce told The FREEMAN.
According to Arce, she is just following the instruction of Mayor Michael Rama to impose order in Carbon Market. – (FREEMAN)
