CEBU, Philippines - Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama assured that the city government will provide cash assistance to the family of the man who was shot dead by a snatcher he was chasing near the Mambaling flyover last Wednesday.
Arsenio Hanggin Jr., 47, married, chased the suspect Jeffrey Pulgo just after the latter snatched the cellphone of his niece, Lovely, at Tres de Abril Street. But when Hanggin and his cousin Felix Panugaling have caught Pulgo they were shot by the latter.
Hanggin, a resident of Barangay Punta Princesa, sustained gunshot wound in the left side of his body while Panugaling was also hit in his arm. Pulgo was arrested and recovered from his possession the .357 Magnum revolver.
Rama said the city is willing to provide the necessary cash assistance to the family of Hanggin. He however did not say how much.
He instructed City Hall public information officer Carlo Dugaduga to facilitate for the release of the assistance.
The policemen will file a case for homicide and frustrated homicide against Pulgo, aside from the robbery charges in connection with the snatching of the cellphone.
The killing of Hanggin and the wounding of Panugaling marred the opening of the P110-million-worth flyover project in Barangay Mambaling last week. (FREEMAN)
