CEBU, Philippines - A Spaniard died after he was thrown from the motorcycle he was driving along Barangay Perrelos, Carcar City early yesterday morning.
Pedro Andres Valencia Vega, 47, succumbed to fatal injuries he sustained during the accident.
Senior Police Officer 1 Norman Lapiña, radio operator of the Carcar City Police Station, said the accident happened at 4 a.m. while the victim was driving a big black bike (4463 YX) on his way home to Barangay Valladolid from Sangat, San Fernando town.
The victim was wearing a crash helmet but the impact of the accident was enough to cause severe injuries and eventually take his life.
Vega was driving along sitio Gaymakers in Barangay Perrelos when he suddenly lost control of the big bike and fell on the road, Lapiña said.
The victim was dragged some 45 feet away from the point of impact and hit a cab driven by Arnold Antopina, 35, of Victoria Village, Barangay Valladolid.
The motorcycle swerved into the right portion of the road and bumped into the railings. The cab was damaged at the back. Luckily, the driver was not seriously hurt, Lapiña said.
The victim was rushed to the Carcar District Hospital where attending physicians pronounced him dead on arrival. His body was taken to the Tupas Funeral Homes in Valladolid and was subjected to an autopsy.
The cab driver reported the incident to the police and had it recorded in a blotter.
Meanwhile, two men died while three others were injured in a collision between a tricycle and a motorcycle in Barangay Pajo, Bantayan last Friday afternoon.
The casualties were identified as Marvin Inso, the driver of the motorcycle-for-hire and Aldrin Salatandra, 23, one of his back riders. Those injured were passengers Alvin Salatandra, 28, Eliseo Rodrigo, 31, and the tricycle driver Teopanis Pepito.
According to the Daanbantayan Police Desk Officer Cleo Bohol, Pepito was driving his tricycle heading for Poblacion while Marvin Inso was heading the opposite direction when the accident happened.
The three injured passengers were taken to a hospital in Cebu City.
In another accident, a Filipino-Chinese man suffered from fractured bones and other injuries in his body after the vehicle he was driving fell into a cliff in barangay Gibuangan, Barili last Friday midnight.
Verny Chua Chan, 22, of Andres Abellana extension, barangay Guadalupe, was heading to Cebu City from Moalboal when he lost control of the Crosswind SUV he was driving.
He is now confined in a hospital in Cebu City. — /JPM (FREEMAN)
