CEBU, Philippines - The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency has deployed at least seven police dogs trained to sniff bombs and illegal drugs at the two major terminals in Cebu starting yesterday to ensure the security of the passengers during the Holy Week.
PDEA’s K-9 unit deployed four at the South Bus Terminal while three were assigned at the North Bus Terminal in Mandaue City.
Jessie Tabanao, PDEA-7 spokesperson, said these dogs were trained to detect drugs and bombs.
According to Tabao, the dogs will be stationed in the areas where it is least noisy and least humid because these factors affect their performance.
“Madugay man gud ning iro mo-react na tungod sa kasaba ug kainit sa palibot. So ato siya ipahiluna sa dili kaayo saba ug bugnaw na area sa terminal para accurate jud iyang reaction,” Tabanao said.
The passengers’ luggage will pass through the K-9 dogs aside from metal detector and manual search by security personnel assigned at the terminals.
Aside from the terminals, PDEA-7 has also deployed some of its dogs in Bantayan Island for the fiesta and for the annual “Sugat” in Minglanilla town. (FREEMAN NEWS)
