Cabbie collapses while driving
CEBU, Philippines - A 42-year-old taxi driver lost consciousness behind the wheel of his taxi while it was in the middle of the road in Barangay Labangon, Cebu City, shortly before 6 a.m. yesterday. He later died in the hospital.
Wilbur Joe Lim Tan, of Rizal Ave., Barangay Pardo, Cebu City, was driving his Bea Taxi with license plate numbers GXJ-146 when he suddenly slumped.
Other motorists became concerned when the traffic light at corner N. Bacalso Ave. and R. Padilla St. turned green and his taxi still did not move.
A police car happened to pass by and SPO1 Desiderio Mendaros and PO2 Ricky Caca went to check and found him unconscious. They then called the Emergency Rescue Unit Foundation.
ERUF paramedics rushed him to the Cebu City Medical Center but he was already dead when they arrived.
Police ruled out any foul play as the victim did not have signs of any injury. The hospital could also not say what could have killed the fatality as he was already dead when they arrived at the hospital.
Jocelyn, the wife of the fatality, said that her husband suffered from diabetes.
The taxi was placed under the custody of the police for safekeeping. (FREEMAN)
