Passengers warned to be wary of thieves

CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu South Bus Terminal (CSBT) is encouraging passengers to be cautious of their belongings despite the increase in the number of policemen deployed in the facility during the Lenten season.

CSBT Local Revenue Collection Officer Carmen Quijano said they are asking the passengers to be careful and to be vigilant against snatchers and thieves.

Quijano said they are expecting more than 10,000 passengers on Wednesday and more than 16,000 passengers on the following days.

With this, she said it would not be easy for them and the police to spot suspicious individuals.

She said that in the past holiday rush, some passengers just left their bags unguarded at the terminal premises. She also warns passengers to refrain from using their cellular phones in public because it will attract snatchers.

Cebu Provincial Planning and Development Office Chief Adolfo Quiroga said they will be deploying two teams, with eight men each, from the Cebu Provincial Police Office and the Special Reaction Unit to ensure the safety of the passengers as well as to monitor the peace and order at the terminal.

Quiroga said they expect to collect around P50,000 per day in terminal fees on Wednesday, and more on Thursday and Friday when people go to their hometowns for the long weekend. (FREEMAN)
