CEBU, Philippines - A 13-year-old boy hung himself to death after his mother scolded him for his low grades in Barangay Upper Lipata, Minglanilla yesterday.
The victim, a first year high school student of Immaculate Heart of Mary Academy located in barangay Ward 4, was seen by his younger brother hanging lifeless outside their comfort room.
The victim’s younger brother was allegedly about to go to the comfort room about 8:00 in the morning when he discovered the incident. He then called his cousin who was sleeping with them that time for help.
Lipata barangay councilman Lino Ong hurriedly called for police assistance.
SPO1 Renato Masangcay, police investigator, said the victim killed himself by tying a nylon rope around his neck and hanged himself from the ceiling of the house which is about eight feet from the floor.
Masangcay said the victim possibly got depressed after his mother scolded him for getting 78 as general average grade.
The victim’s mother allegedly wanted him to apply for a scholarship and motivated him to get a general average of 80 but he failed.
Masangcay said the boy’s mother works at a pawnshop in Talisay City while his father works abroad.
The mother was believed to be at home already when the victim committed suicide. — (FREEMAN)
