Doctor hit by car, in serious condition

- Niña G. Sumacot-Abenoja -

CEBU, Philippines - A doctor was seriously injured after he was hit by a car reportedly driven by a female Korean at Maria Luisa Village, Barangay Banilad Sunday night.

Police identified the victim as Winthrop Martin Uy, 43, a resident of the village’s Paseo Don Sergio.

According to the police investigation, the victim was jogging downhill when a Toyota Corolla (GPF-222) driven by Korean An Kikyung, 40, sideswiped him. Kikyung had just visited someone in the village during the incident.

Kikyung, a resident of Kabangkalan, Mandaue City, was also maneuvering downhill when she accidentally hit the victim.

The victim banged his head on the car’s windshield and was thrown away, as Kikyong continued driving until she hit a garden and a VECO post.

Personnel of the Emergency Rescue Unit Foundation rushed the unconscious victim to the Cebu Doctors’ University Hospital where he is still being treated.

Kikyung surrendered to the village guard and was turned over to the City Traffic Operations and Management (Citom).

At the Citom office, she claimed the brakes of her car did not function properly.

According to PO2 Marlon Abella, her lawyer said that his client did not notice the victim because the area was dark.

Kikyung was detained but was able to post bail.

A charge for reckless imprudence resulting to serious physical injury was filed against her last Monday. — (FREEMAN)
