Wanted man falls after 22 years

CEBU, Philippines - A councilor of Barangay West Poblacion, Naga, Cebu was arrested at about 1:30 yesterday afternoon for the gang rape of a retarded woman 22 years ago.

Jose Herediano, 40 years old, married, was arrested in his house in Barangay West Poblacion, according to the arresting officer, Police Senior Inspector Rogelio Pineda Jr.

The arrest was made by virtue of a warrant issued by Regional Trial Court Branch 13 Presiding Judge Meinrado Paredes.

Herediano is one of the five suspects of the gang rape of a mentally retarded married woman with two children in Playa Del Sol South Poblacion, Naga last January 22, 1989.

The FREEMAN tried to interview Herediano but he refused to talk.

Three other suspects - Danilo Canillo, Ed Aleganga and Jerry Cañalita were acquitted. Another suspect, Andy Largo, was convicted and is now in the national penitentiary in Muntinlupa.

Herediano is now temporarily detained at the PRO 7 detention cell at Camp Sergio Osmeña. — (FREEMAN)
