Cashier loses proceeds to swindler
CEBU, Philippines - A cashier of an agri-vet store claimed a swindler took their establishment’s proceeds by making her believe that her employer owed the suspect a certain amount in Barangay Cogon-Pardo Wednesday.
Jejie Lahoy-lahoy, 20, a resident of Sitio Ponce, Barangay Capitol Site and cashier of AED Marketing, located on Gabuya St., Sitio El Volca, Barangay Cogon-Pardo alleged she was in the cashier’s booth when a woman arrived at the store around 6:20 p.m. and introduced herself as a certain “Nice,” allegedly from the town of Bogo.
In the course of their conversation, the woman told her that she is also operating an agri-vet business but her products are of much lower price. After which, the woman suddenly left.
But about 30 minutes later, the same woman returned and this time, claimed that she is a friend of Liza, wife of the owner of AED marketing.
The woman added that Liza owed her P40,000 cash and that she came to collect P16,000 as payment.
She said she already informed Liza about her presence and managed to convince Lahoy-lahoy to give her the available cash amounting to P12,300.
The suspect further convinced the victim to meet her at a mall near Fuente Osmeña circle where she could issue her a receipt of the payment.
Lahoy-lahoy alleged that at the mall, she handed over the money to the woman, who then advised her to stay for about 15 minutes as she would get the receipt nearby.
However, the woman never came back prompting the victim to go back and report the matter to her employer.
Lahoy-lahoy described the woman as about 30 years old, 4’11” tall, chubby, fair-skinned and decent looking. She wore a yellow blouse and denims during the incident.
Chief Insp. Bonifacio Garciano, chief of Theft and Robbery Section, said that they have been informing the public about this kind of “modus operandi” of criminals.
Garciano appealed to the public to report to the police immediately any suspicious person or anyone who appears to be tricky. (FREEMAN)
