Garcia lifts desist order vs KSPC

CEBU, Philippines - Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia yesterday lifted the cease and desist order against Korea Electric Company-Salcon Power Corporation (KSPC) following its assurance that it is committed to the safety of the people.

In a press statement, KSPC general counsel Guillermo Dabbay Jr. said “the power company can continue fulfilling its commitment to provide electricity for Cebu without interruption.”

Saying “the governor’s decision came just in time,” Dabbay explained that Garcia has been satisfied by their dust prevention plan, which was finalized yesterday morning by the KSPC technical committee.

This led to the lifting of the order, he said.

KSPC has assured that it will religiously follow the conditions set by the governor to protect the environment and the residents near the plant.  

“We are confident that Mayor Valdemar Chiong will also be satisfied with the plan and our sincerity in completing this as soon as possible,” Dabbay said.

The company assured that the “safety and health are a commitment that goes with providing electricity.”

“As a good corporate citizen, KSPC strives to be a good neighbor and always obedient of the laws and lawful orders of Naga City and the Province of Cebu,” Dabbay said.

Garcia, earlier this month, imposed the cease and desist order against the hauling and or dumping of coal at the Naga facility unless mitigation measures to contain coal dust are installed.

She gave KSPC until the end of this month to submit a comprehensive plan and come up with a dust containment measure in its facility. – Ryan Christopher J. Sorote/LPM  (THE FREEMAN)
