CEBU, Philippines - The Provincial Police Office will form a group that would tightly monitor areas in Cebu observed to have many cases of robbery.
Senior Supt. Patrocinio Comendador, officer-in-charge of CPPO, said these areas include Consolacion, Liloan and Danao City in the north and Talisay, Minglanilla and Naga in the south.
Comendador said he identified these areas based on reports he received from police stations from local government units starting that time he assumed office as OIC of CPPO last March 15. Comendador also sits as chief of the Regional Investigation and Detective Management Division of the Regional Police Office. Comendador said the new group, which will be composed of policemen from Talisay, Minglanilla and Naga would complement the existing Night Watch patrol. He said he is also looking at tapping the services of policemen from the Pardo Police Station.
“Overall sa Cebu Province, physical injuries gyud ang kasagarang cases but due to some incidents like atong dunay gipatay nga pulis, we need to secure the area,” Comendador said.
He said the new group would make it easier for the police to respond to criminal activities.
Recently, Comendador directed all police stations under CPPO to conduct night patrol once a month. Patrollers will be deployed in towns with most reported crimes.
Comendador said a police officer is mandated to participate in the night patrol regardless of whether or not he was on duty during the day.
He added that through the expansion of the night watch, police officers would be able to immediately respond to various criminal incidents. Comendador is set to meet with the chiefs of police of the identified local government units next week to iron out details in forming the new group. — (FREEMAN)
