USC, CIT-U top engineering exams

CEBU, Philippines - Three Cebu graduates from two respected universities have made it to the top 10 in the recent Mechanical Engineer Licensure Examination administered by the Professional Regulation Commission.

Two of the three topnotchers came from the University of San Carlos while the other came from the Cebu Institute of Technology-University.

USC’s Gromyko Geraldino Jr. and Joseph Paras placed fourth and ninth place, respectively. Gerwin Desquitado of the CIT-U ranked sixth in the board exams given in Cebu City last March 19 and 20.

Geraldino got an average of 89.85 to secure the fourth place while his fellow Carolinian, Paras, scored 87.55. Desquitado got 88.6 percent.

Professor Ronald Galindo of the USC Department of Mechanical Engineering described their latest topnotchers to have displayed exceptional scholastic achievements during their college days.

In fact, Geraldino and Paras were among the top students of their batch who displayed exemplary dedication and will in their pursuit of excellence and success. With their enthusiasm and zeal, the two were revered by their batch mates to be a true Carolinian example that embodies its unique qualities of being faithful and a hard worker.

Geraldino and Paras will be recognized by their very proud alma mater and by the department where they come from. The university is expected to give them cash incentives for bringing honor and prestige to the school.

Dr. Evangeline Evangelista, Dean of the College of Engineering and Architecture of the CIT-U, told The FREEMAN that their new achiever is an addition to the consistent tradition of excellence that their school has offered.

Evangelista described their Mechanical Engineering Department to be one of their strongest in terms of producing topnotchers.

According to Evangelista, Desquitado will receive cash incentives from the university president. The Mechanical Engineering Department will also receive the same incentives for producing such exceptional graduate.

This year’s ME board exams number one examinee was Oliver Revalo of the Mapua Institute of Technology. Revalo bested 1,220 examinees with an average score of 91.60 percent. Among those who took the exams only 658 passed.

Mindanao State University’s Mark Loyd Abaya came second with 91.50 percent, Miguel Yap of the Technological University of the Philippines (TUP-Manila) came in third with 90.55 percent.

Raymond de la Cruz of Bulacan State University placed fifth with a grade of 89.50 percent.

Tied with CIT-U Desquitado was another Mapua graduate, Ralph Lawrence Kua, who obtained a grade of 88.25 percent.

Following is another MSU graduate, Joel Jorban, in eighth place with a grade of 87.64 percent.

Completing the top 10 is Jino Karlo Rivera of the University of the Philippines-Diliman with a grade of 87.25 percent.

Registration for the issuance of professional identification card and certificate of registration will be from March 25 to April 15. Passers should personally register and sign in the roster of registered professionals.

The oath-taking ceremony for the latest batch of mechanical engineers as well as those who have not yet been sworn in as professionals will be on April 25 at the Manila Hotel. — /FPL (FREEMAN)
