CEBU, Philippines - A woman died after she was hit and dragged by a car for about a kilometer along the Gov. Cuenco Avenue, Barangay Banilad, early yesterday morning.
Anecita Arong, 54, sustained severe injuries to her head and abrasions all over after she was hit and dragged by a Kia Sorento with license plate numbers ZFJ-766 driven by Vincent Lim, 35, who claimed he was unaware of the accident.
Traffic investigator PO2 Edgardo Becoy said the victim was riding a Rusi motorcycle driven by her husband, Jose Arong Jr., 58, when the incident happened at past 3 a.m.
Becoy said Arong, a barangay tanod, was slowly driving the motorcycle as Anecita, a barangay cleaner, checked the area because the barangay will be holding a cleanup drive in the morning and the area was where she was assigned to clean.
Just then, the front bumper of the car suddenly hit their motorcycle. The two were thrown off from their motorcycle and Anecita was trapped beneath the car.
Allegedly unaware, the suspect continued to drive as if nothing happened. Becoy said the victim only became untangled from the car when it reached Barangay Cabangcalan, Mandaue City, about a kilometer away from Banilad.
The suspect continued to drive until he reached his house in Holy Family townhomes in Barangay Maguikay, Mandaue City, and slept.
Becoy said some concerned motorcycle and multicab drivers followed the suspect and found out where his house was. They then reported the incident to the Kasuntingan Police Station.
Becoy said they went to the suspect’s residence around 7 a.m. and informed him about the incident before arresting him.
The suspect claimed he did not know that he had hit someone.
Lim is now detained while charges for reckless imprudence resulting in homicide, physical injury and damage to property and hit and run are set to be filed against him tomorrow, Becoy said. (FREEMAN NEWS)
