CEBU, Philippines - An amputated right leg of a person placed inside a box was found in the seawall near Gate 3 of the South Road Properties in Barangay Mambaling, Cebu City about 5:00 in the morning yesterday.
A scavenger, who was digging up some recyclable materials at the SRP, found the leg and immediately informed barangay tanod Cornelio Dinglasa who turned it over to the Homicide Section of the Cebu City Police Office.
SPO3 Rey Cuyos said the box was secured by a packaging tape with a marking “Tocao, Edgardo potol tuong tiil.”
The police officer said out of curiosity, the scavenger told Dinglasa to open the box they were surprised to find the amputated right leg of a person.
Policemen immediately brought the leg to St. Francis Funeral Homes on N. Bacalso Avenue for proper disposition.
SPO1 Roger Nedamo said it was not the first time they responded to the same incident.
According to Nedamo, those who are amputated are people who are usually suffering from diabetes.
Few years ago, an amputated leg was also found near the bridge along B. Rodriguez St. and was later found out that it was owned by a patient who was confined at the nearby Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center.
“Ingon ang taga hospital nga ihatag na nila sa tagtungod aron ipalubong human maputlan pero didto na sila kahibaw nga gilabay ra diay,” Nedamo said.
With regards to the latest incident, police said they are still conducting a follow up investigation if the leg was owned by somebody who was killed and or of a diabetes patient and who threw it in the area. (FREEMAN)
